Scintilla #2: I Couldn't do It Without You

No one does it alone. Write a letter to your rescuer or mentor (be it a person, book, film, record, anything). Share the way they lit up your path.

I remember that September afternoon in 2007. It was sunny outside and I was just relaxing on my bed. This was a campus room and I shared it with four other girls. One was my best friend, the other two were my friends. It was not too big, neither too small. I loved it although I missed privacy at times.
I remember this was one of those days that I wanted privacy. I was reading a romantic novel. I was so engrossed in it and I did not want any interruptions. However, my wish was not granted for very long as one of my roommates came back.
I remember it so well, it seems just like yesterday. The way you walked into our room, laughing with my friend. At first, I did not even want to look up because the story was too captivating. One of lovers, one of a fairy tale. I just wanted to stay in the novel-life where everything ended so perfectly, where everyone lived happily ever after.

I remember your face, as you came to my bed and asked what I was reading? Why I seemed so busy, as if the novel was part of the final exam. I did not want to speak to you, but you said it with such charm that I just had to answer. I remember you, trying to make me laugh, telling me that you would bring me a novel titled, "The World's Greatest Love".
I remember me smiling at you and wanting to laugh with you, and wanting to hold onto that moment for eternity. I remember, with such vividness, the light in your eyes. I remember, with a smile, the echo of your laughter.  Oh, how I remember, the way I pretended to not feel anything when you left.

Years Later, I still remember, that day in September when I met you for the first time. You lit my path then and that light only grew bigger, until it became a fire. It burns in my body, within my heart and forever in my soul.
I remember.

When one needs to be brave

There are many times that each one of us finds themselves in a position of fear or a lack of courage. When we get to this place, the only solution is to find a way that we can find the courage and be brave. For example, lately, I know I have not been the blogger I used to be. Reason being a lack of internet at home, and sometimes just pure laziness. In most cases, I have to find a place where I can find my strength again and start writing.

However, I know there are more serious situations that people go through and have to find a place of braveness, a place where courage comes from within. A place where the voices of fear on the outside become softer and the voice of courage begins to find root.

For example, when loss confronts us and someone special is gone, we often feel a deep sense of hurt and some very weird feeling of fear. Fear of not knowing how to live our lives without that person. By loss, I mean death, separation, divorce, a breakup, distance and many other kinds of losses. It is difficult. I admit that. However, it is inevitable. We must move forward. After all the crying, worrying, stressing: we all come to one point. The point where we must move forward.

This is the point where one must search for braveness, no matter what obstacles are on the way. Where do you go when you need to be brave?

Some people go to church, some to therapists, some to friends, some to Google, name the place and there is someone who goes there in search of braveness. However, in the few years that I have lived, I have come to understand that the only place where braveness and all the other good qualities exists in abundance is WITHIN. INSIDE. Braveness rests inside of me, inside of you and inside of everyone of us. When that moment comes, and I have to be brave, I always look inside. Once there, I analyze whatever issues am facing, take my time and step by step, I begin to find my place of courage.

I do prayer, I meditate, I write, I dance but it all comes from inside. I must find the strength to do these things from inside my soul. The courage and braveness you might be looking for lies somewhere deep INSIDE of you. It is in your soul and is abundant in ways that you have never imagined.
Just take a peek INSIDE and see that it is all there. INSIDE.

True to Me: Always

How does a person stay true to themselves?
Personally, this is a question that I do ask myself frequently. Life is big and it presents us with so many choices that it is actually quite difficult to stay true to oneself. I don't wanna get lost in all these things, all these people who I encounter everyday.
I want 'ME' to remain, the Millie that I have always known must remain even after everything else is gone.
Staying true to oneself involves, finding oneself first.
What things do you believe in?
What excites you or makes your heart tick?
I am not my body but I am a soul that gets uplifted by certain things.
These things nourish my soul and this is who I am.
For me, love, peace, joy, stillness and everything that makes me smile, a smile that comes from deep inside, that's who I am.
This is who I want to preserve.
Staying true means that I only engage in those activities that bring out this smile,
Those things that nourish my soul and uplift it to greater heights.
Helping people not for the sake of it, but to touch their lives,
Establishing connections and keeping them open.
This is what staying true means to me.
Living from the deepest part of my heart and keeping in touch with my soul.
Hope you stay true to yourself.
