Friday Fancies : Crushes

I always fall in love with outfits that I could wear in real life.Like this one, totally awesome and totally wearable [oh, except the six inch heel] but I could try.
The simplicity in this outfit makes me comfortable. I know am trying to get out of the comfort zone with clothes but I couldn't help it.
So lets see my recreation.....
I love the bag on the left and I totally want it like right now...
Anyway, enjoy your Friday and make it count!

How do you wear Skirts???

Yeeeaaaah! Its Thursday, just one more day and we can say We Made It!!!
Another week down, that's a real blessing don't you think???
That's right.
As I've said a ton of times on this blog, I do really think I need fashion help.
Jeans and t-shirts ain't cutting it!!Especially in a world where fashion is the in-thing..
I might just be the lost one here but I sure do hope there are others like me...

Anyway, in my attempt to cut myself from my self-created fashion rut, I have been thinking about adding some skirts to my closet. I have some but I rarely wear them so once I buy some more, I hope to take it to the next level and actually wear them..
I once wore a skirt suit and my hubby's friend asked me why I was stealing my sister's clothing..He even pointed out that he can only talk seriously to me if am back to my jeans routine.
Insert very sad face here.....
I digress, my main point here was, am trying to be more fashionable, or more specifically fantasizing about it.
Anyway, here are some of my latest skirt finds and I do hope they make their way to my closet while am asleep and then I can begin the process of thinking how I will wear them
Skirt Fever

The ones in the first row are called skater skirts (which I didn't know). By the way, am always surprised by these names. Where do they come from??Who names skirts?? I'll stop there since it is getting kinda weird.
Anyway, I love all these skirts. The colors=awesome.
If I wore that maxi skirt, I would totally look weird rock it, coz am a wee bit tiny.
Have yourselves a pretty awesome Thursday!

Sparkly Wednesday

This week is crazy. Lots of work but am not complaining. This is what I was asking for and definitely getting it.
And to keep me from going crazy, Pinterest provides an avenue to release all that tension. These pins don't have any kind of theme but they are definitely making me happy.
I wonna go here right now. It looks perfect.
Yum
Just take me and hubz here... we will never come back
What more can a girl say???

Loving Lately

So, today I was feeling a little cranky, (for lack of a better word). So I decided to do something that would cheer me up.
I think that feeling came from knowing that I did not have an awesome post to present to you today and that's kind of disappointing, ain't it? Yeah I know.
Anyway, I started going through my head and thinking of things that are making me happy nowadays. And then it struck me, am kinda loving jewelery these days. I even told hubz to buy me another cute bracelet that I saw. Not that I can't buy it but hubz really likes to buy me such things. You know little bracelets, tiny earring, cute chains. And am so happy when he does, coz which woman wouldn't be??
I love this small collection that I created from Joy the Store. I especially loved the first and last bracelets. They are so tiny, yet could hold so much meaning if shared between friends. I always want to attach meaning to such things. It makes me treasure them even more.

Other things am loving lately include:
-Sleeping early
-Hubz
-Having my sister around
-cuddling
- Encouraging words
-Rain
-Making new bloggy friends
-Optimism

Never Give up + Weekend Update

So, this weekend was absolutely crazy and amazeballs at the same time.
Friday, I was so tired that on Saturday I was unable to wake up and go to work.
So, I slept in and tried to rest until the bug caught me and I started cleaning.
Laundry, house, kitchen, everything was cleaned.\
Then in the afternoon, a friend had invited us to lunch so I dressed up and left with hubs.
Little did we know that it was not just lunch but a full-blown party.
So, the festivities started and all I can say is after a few too many glasses of wine, we ended up sleeping at 6. a.m in the morning.
So, there went Sunday, nursing hangovers and sleeping just to make sure we would be ready for the week.
And here I am, Monday all fresh, a little sleepy but still loving it.

Just a little reminder to guide you and me through the week:

Whenever things seem a little hard, or you fall down and find yourself not knowing wheere to turn, never, ever, give up. I have to remind myself this everyday and I always find that things get better. Remember that where there is hope, there is life. So, keep on keeping on.
Have a fabulous week dolls!

What to wear to a Manchester United Game

As none of you know (lol)- am a huge soccer fan.
Ok, huuuuuge fan.
I know most of my readers subscribe to the American football concept but really I don't get it. But I do appreciate you.
I like soccer and here we call it football. No quarter backs or anything, just defenders, midfielders, strikers and goalkeepers.
Yeah, I do know about all this stuff and I like it.
So, as we create outfits today on Friday Fancies, I chose to create one inspired by my favorite teams of all time. MANCHESTER UNITED!!!!! Whoooop!Whoooop!
Am crazy, aren't I?
I sleep late watching this team, I stop whatever am doing just to watch a replay of the goals, I just cant stand when we lose.
Anyway, too much of that, considering this is a lady's blog.
Hope that its not too much boy stuff.
Anyway let me spare you and just go directly to the outfit.
Untitled #41

I would totally wear this and I think I already have but lets just leave it at that.
Happy Friday loves.

Me, Myself and I

Hello my lovely peeps!! Hope your week is going well and you are being the best you can.
I hope your lives are flowing, smoothly, with no hitches.
Anyway, the blogosphere is a huge place and we sometimes get caught up in the process of blogging that we forget to make the most basic of human needs: connection.
We all want to connect with others and this is why blogging seems so appealing.
This is also the reason why I love the Me, Myself & I link-up. It helps us get to know the human side of bloggers.
So lovely people, this is an opportunity for you to get to know me a little bit better..

1. When you are feeling down, what do you do to pick yourself up?
When am feeling down, I usually shut down and keep to myself. So, to pick myself up I might cook, clean, go for a walk, run, write, cry a little, tell myself that I will be ok, call my bff, eat a lot of food...dance a little, some yoga also helps
2.If you had to live in a different time period, which would you prefer?
I would love to live in the 1920's. The Gatsby era, so pompous and life seemed so full. I'd have loved to see the prosperity in the world at that time.

3. What is the most creative Halloween costume you've ever worn?
There is nothing like Halloween in Kenya so I cannot answer this. However, I will let you in on a secret, in High school I was always part of the music festivals and we used to wear sisal skirts to enhance the dance movements. #loved it.
4. Five weird things we wouldn't know without being told?
a)Am always first on the dance floor and I haven't been on it for at-least five months now.#sad
b)I hate cats. More like, I fear cats. Well, I like their photos but in real life.....don't come near me.
c)Am a mum's girl.
d)I think I need fashion help. Jeans and t-shirts are getting boring.
e)I love new things but I loooove my old, familiar things. For example, I can't seem to let go of my phone which does not even have a camera.
5. What would you tell your 16-year-old self?
To take it easy. To focus more on studies and take time to just be young and enjoy high school.

If I ever knew Fall/Autumn

I am a really funny blogger, aint I?
Ask me why and I'll tell you!
You know, in Kenya, (my beloved country), there is nothing like Fall or Autumn. But, since most of my readers are currently very excited about fall, I got a little excited too.
And there I went and created an outfit that I would wear if I ever knew fall.
I may not be right but I tried and I hope you like it.
You know what I think?? Of course you don't, but I'll tell ya...
I think fall is about color. I also seem to think that Fall is about falling leaves and amazing scenery. Don't get me wrong, it is just what I think!!
And since its Friday, am allowed to do some weird stuff, ain't I??
fall fashion

Enjoy this beautiful Friday!
Oh, and just saying, that scarf is called "fat face". TGIF!

What is Happiness??

Today, am a little tired. So, I just wanted to share with you a little something that made me happy. Something that comes pretty close to defining what happiness is all about. But really people, I think I might have found the answer on how to be happy! I can assure you that the answer is pretty and quite colorful. I think I really like it.
I hope it lifts up your spirits.

I know you thought it was a quote or something of the sort but look at this dress!! Bazinga!!!
It is awesome. I can't even imagine how I would feel wearing it. The colors pop out of the dress and make it look so easy to wear!
People, I think am in looove!!

Githeri Recipe: Kenyan Style

Hello my people! Is is Tuesday already??
You know, last night I was so tired, I did not even realize how I crawled into my bed. Problem was that I had a late meeting and so I got home quite late. Thank God for a sister who had already cooked dinner!Gracias darling!!
Anyways, I am now awake and taking the day, a step at a time!Hope I'll make it to the end alive!

One thing you should know by now is that I love food and moreover, I love cooking.
My mum knows this and since she has a small farm upcountry, she sends me some of her produce so I can experiment here in town. Right now, it is maize and beans harvest time in Kenya meaning that Githeri is a common meal in most homes.
For my readers who might not understand what Githeri is, I will be so kind as to explain as I give you the Githeri recipe.
Githeri is one of the most popular traditional foods of Kenya. This is especially so among the Kikuyu people, a tribe from the Central part of Kenya, which am proudly part of. When discussing foods from Kenya and foods from Africa, corn or maize as we call it here, cannot be ignored. We cook it in every form. From the sweet, young grains which are easy to chew, to the hardened, dry form which is more difficult to cook and chew. We also use corn/maize flour as part of our staple food, for ugali (i will tell you all about it later) and porridge. In fact, food shortages in Kenya are commonly measured by the availability of maize at cheap prices in the market.
Githeri is basically a mixture of beans and maize/corn-boiled and later fried according to personal taste. So, for those of you looking for recipes for beans, this is a fun one you could try.

Fried Githeri
-Serves 5

Ingredients:
-3 cups Maize (removed from the cobs) -I prefer fresh maize from the garden
-2 cups Beans
-7 cups water

To Fry:
-2 onions
-3 tomatoes
-6 potatoes
-1 cucumber
-1/4 kg meat (optional)

Spices
-Royco
-Curry Powder
-Salt to taste

Method:
-Mix the maize and beans together. Wash and cover in water. Boil for 2-3 hours or until soft. In case, the maize or beans is very dry, you can soak the mixture before boiling. Soaking overnight, reduces the boiling time by half.
-After the Githeri is ready, drain the remaining water.
-Cut the onions, tomatoes, and cucumber.
-Saute the onions with oil, in a sufuria until golden brown.
-Add the chopped meat and brown for 5 minutes.
-Add the tomatoes and cucumber.
-In the mean time, peel the potatoes and slice them into cubes.
-Add them to the sufuria and keep stirring.
-Add salt and the spices. If it burns or gets too hot, add a little water.
-Add the boiled Githeri and stir, mixing in all the ingredients.
-Add boiling water to cover the mixture. Don't add too much as it may become too soggy.
-Let it simmer under low heat for about 10-15 minutes. Keep checking on the potatoes to make sure they don't overcook.
-When ready, let the Githeri sit for five minutes, then serve with steamed cabbages or other vegetables.

I have cooked Githeri several times in the last two weeks and am loving it. It is always helpful to take advantage of the ingredients that are in season when cooking as they are cheaper and very convenient. (More so, when your mum sends you stuff from up country) Thank you mama!
Hope you like this recipe! If you decide to try it, tell me all about it!!
